Saginaw Boys' Gymnastics Team Become The 2018 5A State Champions!

Boy's Gymnastics - Mon, Apr. 30, 2018
The Saginaw Boys' Gymnastics team competed in the 5A State Gymnastics Championships on April 27-28, 2018 held at Rockwall-Heath High School in Rockwall, TX where they became the 2018 Champions!

After taking home 3rd place in the 2017 5A State Gymnastics Championship, the Rough Riders had something to prove in the 2018 state meet. Coach Briley said, " I knew it was going to be tough competition, there were several teams on our heels."

At the end of day one, Saginaw had a marginal lead of, .2 points over Kingwood High School. "For the final day of competition, Kingwood was very strong and I knew the only way we would win is if we had the best meet of our season." Coach Briley recalled. Everyone had to bring their best performances on day two!

The competition was fierce and it came down to the last event, high bar. Sophomore, Joseph Bryant stuck a very difficult landing to seal the victory for Saginaw!

In addition to the team's victory, veteran coach, Eric Briley was named the 2018 5A Coach of the Year! When asked about his experience and honor, Coach Briley humbly said "The 2018 state championship was one of the most exciting events I have been part of."

Congratulations Coach Briley and the boys gymnastics team!
